The project
The operator's riser-flange specification called for 100% ultrasonic testing for internal soundness plus magnetic-particle inspection of every sealing face and bolt hole on all 18 flanges in the lot, performed by a facility independent of the original forging supplier — a common requirement on offshore components where the inspecting party being separate from the manufacturing party is itself part of the quality assurance intent. Each flange was individually serialized and its inspection results tied to that serial number in the final documentation package.
Two flanges in the lot showed UT indications requiring engineering disposition against the operator’s acceptance criteria; both were resolved as acceptable per the applicable standard’s sizing criteria, with the disposition documented alongside the raw inspection data in the final report.
